In recent years, autogas (LPG) has become the preferred fuel for millions of drivers worldwide — and with good reason. It’s economical, environmentally friendly, and gentle on the engine, with a history of use in vehicles that spans over 60 years.
Why is autogas the better choice?
V-Gas offers one of the cleanest energy sources for vehicles on the Bulgarian market — liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), composed mainly of propane and butane. When burned, it emits carbon dioxide and water vapor, without harmful fine particulate matter or heavy metal compounds.
But the benefits of autogas go beyond that:
-
LPG is gentler on engines, as it doesn’t generate abrasive solid particles that accelerate wear;
-
It’s suitable for both private vehicles and public transport;
-
Lower maintenance costs, and with V-Gas, you get guaranteed quality.
Maintenance and Shelf Life of Gas Cylinders
Using autogas comes with responsibility, especially when it comes to the cylinders and the gas system. Here are the key rules every driver should know:
Cylinder Shelf Life:
-
Toroidal cylinders (horizontal) – up to 10 years;
-
Cylindrical (long) cylinders – between 15 and 20 years;
-
Mandatory inspection every 5 years;
-
Replacement – if the expiration date is missing or the cylinder is damaged;
-
Labeling – each cylinder is marked at the top with the production date and required reinspection intervals.
Gas System Maintenance
Maintaining an LPG system is no more complicated than a petrol engine — but it does require regular care:
-
Every 10,000 km – replace gas filters (coarse and fine);
-
More frequent replacement of air filter;
-
Every 40,000 km – check valves, injectors, seals;
-
Clean the gas reducer every 1,000–1,500 km;
-
Replace the reducer membrane every 40,000–50,000 km;
-
Annual check of the entire system;
-
Thorough cylinder inspection every 2 years at a certified service center.
Expert Tips from V-Gas
-
Always switch to LPG only after the engine is warm;
-
Never fill the cylinder to 100% — always leave room for gas expansion;
-
LPG has no natural odor — a scent is added to help detect leaks;
-
Keep spark plugs and valves in top condition and regularly inspect the system;
-
If the cylinder’s label is damaged, the cylinder should not be used.
