Frequently Asked Questions

What is propane - butane?

Propane-butane is the popular name for LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) – in English LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas).

Propane-butane was first produced in 1910 by Dr. Walter Snellings, and the first commercial products containing propane-butane appeared in 1912.

Propane-butane is obtained during oil refining. It is gaseous at normal temperatures and atmospheric pressure, and is supplied liquefied under pressure (at a pressure of 8 atmospheres /at a temperature of 20-25°C/) in steel cylinders or tanks. The cylinders/tanks are filled to 85% of their capacity to allow for thermal expansion of the liquid contained therein. Propane-butane is heavier than air, so in the event of a leak, it collects in the lowest places, such as floors, shafts, basements, etc. This should be taken into account when working with propane-butane.

Propane-butane has more than 1,000 applications. It is widely used in industry and everyday life (heating, cooking, hot water), in transport as fuel for cars and gas trucks, in the chemical industry, in agriculture, in the meat processing and glass industries, in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and plastics, in metal foundries and metal cutting, in waterproofing, in roasting nuts, in dry cleaning, in the restaurant industry, and in many other areas.

Propane-butane is a product of crude oil processing in refineries. It is transported by rail or tanker trucks. Natural gas is extracted directly from the earth and transported through pipelines.

Propane-butane is composed of propane and butane, while natural gas contains mainly methane and ethane. Propane-butane has a higher calorific value than natural gas.

V-GAS спазва стриктно изискванията на Европейска норма 589, която определя качеството на пропан-бутана.

Complete bottle filling process in a protected environment

The V-GAS gas filling plant is equipped with the latest technology:

  • Automatic filling equipment ensuring the exact weight of liquefied gas in the bottles
  • Devices for automatic leak testing of bottles
  • Devices for sealing the shut-off valve with heat-shrinkable film
  • Devices for safely correcting the weight in case of overfilling of bottles
  • Control scales
  • Additional control electronic scale for checking the accuracy of the weight
  • Proper documentation for registration, inspections, and repairs of the vessels.

The complete process of filling bottles with liquefied gas includes:

Checking the bottles for suitability according to European and Bulgarian standards before filling and separating those unsuitable for further inspection and repair.

Checking the exact weight of the full bottles during filling and rechecking on a control electronic scale after completion of the process.

Checking the valve of each bottle for tightness before sealing it with heat-shrinkable film. A gas analyzer is used for this purpose.
