The Romanian government will increase the bonus for scrapping cars by 15% to €1,500 (RON 7,500), Environment Minister Barna Tanco announced. He also announced that buyers of alternative fuel vehicles will receive an additional incentive.

We also have two eco-bonuses that are linked to the car waste bonus and support drivers who use hybrid cars. Here, the eco-bonus increases from RON 2,500 to RON 3,000 (around EUR 600). In the case of cars with CNG or LPG systems, the eco-bonus increases from RON 1,000 to RON 1,500 (EUR 300),” the Minister of the Environment explained.

The total budget for the scrappage program (Programul Rabla Clasic) will increase to RON 440 million (EUR 90 million) this year, and in 2020 it was approximately RON 405 million, which will cover between 55,000 and 60,000 beneficiaries, according to Barna Tanchos.

Meanwhile, the budget for the Rabla Plus program, which finances those who buy hybrid and electric cars, will double this year to RON 400 million (€82 million). The program offers €10,000 bonuses for those who buy fully electric cars and €4,500 for those who buy hybrids with subsidies. The Minister of the Environment expects over 10,000 beneficiaries this year.

Both programs, Rabla Clasic and Rabla Plus, will start in the last week of April.
