In recent years, autogas (propane-butane) has become the fuel of choice for millions of drivers around the world—and rightly so. It is economical, environmentally friendly, and easy on the engine, and has been used as a motor fuel for over 60 years.
Why is autogas a better choice?
V-Gas offers one of the cleanest sources of energy for cars on the Bulgarian market – liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), composed mainly of propane and butane. When burned, it emits carbon dioxide and water vapor, with no harmful fine dust particles or heavy metal compounds.
But the benefits of autogas do not end there:
- LPG is gentler on engines because it does not generate abrasive solid particles that accelerate wear and tear;
- It is suitable for both private vehicles and public transport;
- It is cheaper to maintain, and with V-Gas you get and guaranteed quality.
Maintenance and shelf life of gas cylinders
Using autogas involves responsibility, especially when it comes to cylinders and the gas system. Here are the basic rules every driver should know:
Shelf life of bottles:
- Toroidal cylinders (horizontal shape) – up to 10 years;
- Cylindrical (long) bottles – between 15 and 20 years;
Periodic test – mandatory every 5 years;
Replacement – if there is no information about the expiry date or the bottle is damaged.
Labeling – Each bottle has a label on the top that shows the date of manufacture and mandatory re-certifications.
Maintenance of the gas system
Maintaining a gas system is no more complicated than maintaining a gasoline engine, but it does require regular care:
- Every 10,000 km – replace the gas filters (coarse and fine)
- More frequent replacement of the air filter
- Every 40,000 km – check valves, injectors, seals
- Cleaning of the gas reducer every 1000–1500 km
- Replacement of membrane in reducer at 40,000 – 50,000 km
- Annual review of the entire system
- Basic bottle inspection – every 2 years at a certified service center
Useful tips from the experts at V-Gas
- Always drive on gas after the engine has warmed up;
- Do not fill the bottle 100% full – there must always be space for the gas to expand;
- LPG has no smell of its own – an odorant is added to it to detect leaks;
- Keep spark plugs and valves in good condition and check the system regularly;
- If the label with information on the bottle is damaged, the bottle should not be used.
