With fuel prices constantly rising, more and more Bulgarians are turning to propane-butane systems for their cars. In recent years, autogas has become the fuel of choice throughout Europe, with innovation and research related to its use continuing unabated.
Learn the basic facts about propane-butane for cars.
- Propane-butane, also known as LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), is a mixture of the light hydrocarbons propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H10), which are in a gaseous state at atmospheric temperature and pressure. LPG is mainly extracted from oil and natural gas deposits or obtained during the processing of crude oil in refineries.
- Propane-butane is one of the most environmentally friendly fuels and has been used in cars for over 60 years. The natural products obtained from the combustion of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) are carbon dioxide and water vapor. Compared to light fuels, there are no emissions from heavy metal compounds.
- In addition to being environmentally friendly, propane-butane is also economical. The price of autogas is significantly lower than that of gasoline, and its distribution network in Bulgaria and Europe is well developed.
- LPG protects engines compared to traditional fuels. Propane-butane enters the engine in a gaseous state, so it does not wash away the oil film from the cylinder walls and does not dilute the oil in the crankcase. This reduces cylinder wear and increases the engine’s service life. The combustion process does not release solid particles, which, due to their abrasive action, would cause engine wear.
- With LPG, your car runs smoothly and quietly because propane-butane mixes easily with air and evenly fills the engine cylinders with a uniform fuel-air mixture. This mixture burns almost completely, so no carbon deposits form on the pistons, valves, and spark plugs. The spark plug replacement interval is significantly increased.
- Propane-butane has a high octane rating (103 – 105).
- If installed correctly and using a reliable system and high-quality cylinders (such as those we offer at V-Gas), gas systems are as safe as any other system.
- Over four million vehicles worldwide run on autogas, and their number is growing every day.
