The hot air balloon festival (Canberra Balloon Spectacular) is an annual event where balloonists from all over Australia (and the world) gather to fly over Canberra. This year, the event takes place between March 9 and 17 and attracts a record number of visitors (over 40,000) who enjoy the balloon extravaganza or fly in one of the 40 balloons carried into the city sky.

How do all these balloons rise and fly? With the help of propane-butane, of course!

The burner in the balloon burns propane-butane to heat the air in the dome, and when the required temperature is reached, the balloon rises. The pilot must activate the burner at certain intervals to maintain the desired altitude. Controlling the flight is basically very easy: if we want to ascend, we heat the air in the balloon more, and to descend, we let it cool down. To decrease altitude more quickly, you can also use the valve at the top of the dome, which releases some of the warm air when opened.
