In February this year, the European LPG Association (Liquid Gas Europe) published a document entitled “BIOLPG. A RENEWABLE PATHWAY TOWARDS 2050” , which shows the prospects for propane-butane and bio-propane-butane. It can be downloaded after registration here. We are publishing the main highlights from the document.
The European Union has set itself the ambitious goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. The European LPG Association supports this ambitious goal. The organization believes that the widespread use of LPG (propane-butane) and bioLPG (bio propane butane), especially in rural areas and motor transport, will help achieve this goal.
Cars that use propane-butane limit environmental pollution. They emit significantly fewer harmful emissions than diesel and gasoline cars in real driving conditions. The same applies to heating and water heating used by households relying on LPG compared to those using coal, heating oil, peat, etc.
Today, autogas is the number one alternative fuel in the European Union, used by approximately 8 million vehicles and available at 35,000 gas stations. The transition of vehicles using other fuels to autogas is not only an environmentally friendly alternative and an affordable change for consumers, but also an effective solution for reducing emissions from road transport. These conditions are also an ideal basis for expanding the segment through the adoption of bioLPG.
The ambition of the LPG industry is to continue improving production and utilization. a3> continue improving the production and utilisation of propane-butane and bio propane-butane production through the following actions:
- Advising consumers and businesses on the possibility and advantages of switching to LPG in the short term and bioLPG in the future.
- Disseminating useful information to stakeholders and policymakers about the potential of LPG and bioLPG.
- Bringing together investors on potential projects producing bioLPG.
- Increasing investment in bioLPG production.
- Joining consortia applying for EU funding for research projects.
- Sponsoring research in the field and offering grants for studying new technologies related to propane-butane
