The World LPG Association (WLPGA), which brings together over 300 private and public companies operating in more than 125 countries, has published its annual report for 2022.
It takes into account that:
- 28.3 million cars are powered by autogas
- Global propane-butane production amounts to 331.6 million tons, while LPG demand amounts to 316.9 million tons.
- 46% of LPG consumption is for domestic use
The document also describes the numerous campaigns related to safety and promoting the qualities of propane-butane that the WLPGA has organized. Among the most popular safety initiatives is the Simply Safety campaign, which launched in April and ran until the end of the year. It includes videos with personal messages from industry leaders under the slogan “I support Simply Safety.”
The organization is also making progress in its activities dedicated to innovation and growth, particularly in the areas of renewable fuels, rLPG, rDME, and their integration on a global scale.
Alongside the achievements reported by the organisation in the field of safety and consumer awareness regarding propane-butane, the WLPGA also notes threats to the sector. The report points out that despite the linear growth of the LPG industry, it is threatened by aggressive government policies related to energy transition and climate change.
WLPGA experts warn that the unstable geopolitical context emerging in 2022 could lead to an energy crisis. To address all these short- and long-term challenges, the industry must make efforts and invest resources in uniting sector leaders around a global campaign to promote the benefits of using LPG. To successfully implement such a campaign, the World Organization will build on the experience gained in previous years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
