In the document VISION 2050. The contribution of the LPG industry to the long-term decarbonisation of the European energy mix, the European LPG Association makes specific proposals for exploiting the advantages of propane-butane over other fuels to achieve long-term improvements in air quality in the EU.
The main goals that the organization sets for the future of Europe are reducing environmental pollution, transitioning to decentralized energy systems, and implementing a long-term transparent policy for utilizing the potential of renewable fuels.
Among the specific proposals of the European LPG Association to EU member states for the next 30 years are:
- creating, implementing, and following a long-term policy for reducing harmful emissions;
- support for all technologies that deliver significant benefits in terms of reducing CO2 emissions;
- public awareness of air quality and control measures to reduce pollution;
- maintaining a technology-neutral approach in energy efficiency policies, particularly with regard to energy labeling;
- encouraging the public to use propane-butane on a large scale in the transport sector and in households;
- establishing and enforcing clear and sustainable criteria for bioenergy in order to increase investment in renewable sources;
- creation of European funds for the decarbonisation of the energy sector.
The Association also emphasizes that propane-butane is a renewable energy source that has a wide range of applications and does not depend on access to a centralized gas transmission network. Statistics show that a household emits on average 1.5 tons (about 25%) less CO2 per year if it uses LPG.
