Nowadays, liquefied propane-butane gas (or LPG) has many different applications in everyday life, industry, services, and trade. This is due to its advantages and wide range of applications. However, not everyone is familiar with the history of propane-butane and how it was discovered.

Propane-butane was discovered in a paradoxical way. In 1911, an indignant American customer of an oil company asked his friend, the renowned chemist Dr. Snelling, to investigate the causes of a mysterious event. The reason for the customer’s outrage was that he was astonished to discover that half of the fuel he had just filled up with at the gas station had mysteriously disappeared during the short drive home in his Ford Model T.

In this case there is no leak anywhere. After numerous experiments, Dr. Snellings determines that the cause of the mystery is in the high content of the gases propane and butane in the composition of the loaded fuel, and shortly after that developed and the first practical methods for a34> their distillation. It is precisely because of these his fundamental developments that today Dr. Snellings is considered the “father” of this industry.

First steps towards mass use of propane butane

Snell quickly realized how useful and economical propane butane was, as well as how widely applicable the properties of liquefied gas were. It could be used for lighting, metal cutting, cooking, etc. The discovery was revolutionary for the development of industry. Snellings, together with other scientists, quickly discovered ways to liquefy LPG and founded the American Gasol Company, the first commercial company for the distribution of propane butane.

Modern methods of production and use of propane-butane are environmentally friendly and safe. Vi-Gas Bulgaria EAD also contributes to the development of the sector in Bulgaria by selling propane-butane gas on the market for more than 20 years. Thanks to the high-quality services we offer, the use of propane-butane for business and domestic needs is becoming increasingly widespread.
