Propane-butane (LPG) has been a preferred energy source since its production began in 1911. This is mainly due to the fact that it is environmentally friendly, widely used in everyday life and industry, and easy to transport even to remote areas.
Production
Approximately 60% of global propane-butane production comes from oil and natural gas deposits. The remaining 40% is produced during oil refining. In its normal state, LPG is gaseous, but to optimize its use, it is converted to a liquid state by pumping it into containers with regulatory specifications that ensure its safe storage and transportation.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Dr. Walter Snelling produced propane-butane for the first time, and a few years later, the first commercial products containing propane-butane appeared.
Applications
Autogas
Propane-butane has an extremely diverse range of applications, and its consumption is constantly increasing, mainly as an alternative transport fuel. Over 27 million vehicles worldwide run on propane-butane, with over 15 million in Europe alone. Consumers choose autogas not only because it is an environmentally friendly alternative to other fuels. Drivers are attracted by the longer life of the car engine, which ensures the use of propane-butane, as well as lower operating costs.
Industrial activity
Industrial consumers of propane-butane include companies in the metallurgical, agricultural, ceramic, paper, glass, textile, and many other industries. The reasons for this are related to the ability to monitor and regulate temperature, the easy and flexible storage of the energy source, and its clean combustion. Like other petroleum products, LPG is also used as a raw material in the chemical industry.
Household needs
Domestic gas installations are the optimal choice for heating, water heating, and cooking. LPG is, above all, an environmentally friendly source of energy. By switching to a propane-butane domestic installation, consumers help reduce harmful emissions and keep the environment clean and healthy. High-tech methods for installing LPG for domestic use guarantee efficient operation and maximum safety for all appliances and systems. Many households prefer to use propane-butane over other fuels because they can easily predict their consumption.
